Congratulations! I hope it's everything you wanted. I

Just to add to the whole "universe" thing, I do believe in this kind of energy.

Around this time last year I signed the lease to a one-bedroom via lottery. It was quick and painless. I guess to make up for the hurt being rejected by West 42nd Street (which was a hidden blessing in disguise because the posters that were applying in December - January like I was ultimately were screwed because of Phase II. It's rare to qualify for two AMI bracket's at once. Since West 42nd was 60% AMI Phase I, none of those people qualified for Phase 2 since it was now 40% and 120% only. Such a travesty that was.)

I have no regrets a year later, and am very happy. Not that there's anything wrong with a Studio, it's just not a fit for me personally, so moving into one would never be ideal unless I physically had zero choice.

So the myth of singles never getting a one-bedroom, is just that. A myth. Is there some bias to stuffing us into Studio's? Yes. But we still have a choice. I was 27 (28) now, and I'm also a Black / Hispanic male. I'm also gay which shouldn't play a role in anything (I have visible pride bracelets on my wrists. 8 times out of 10 someone who is wearing the rainbow is gay. The other 2 times out of 10 they are probably just an ally.) but ya know... discrimination."

In any event, having a unit as your own is better than nothing. And when worst comes to worst, you can still keep applying for other things.

To everyone in the running still, keep your head up. Anything is possible.

Bring copies to leave with them of everything they ask you for (that applies to you), and the originals of things in case they want to see an original (unlikely but you never know). I don't think they are supposed to ask you for it until they otherwise are sure you qualify, but have your money order ready, just in case. You will sign lots of papers. Be ready to explain any Paypal or other deposits besides salary into your bank account. It's not an interview where you have a lot of conversation.

Anyway, I went to hand in my paperwork on December 10th, and they did take my money order then (My income is all salary and I am smack in the middle of the income range so I certainly qualify with lots of breathing room in whatever calculations). I had to email them two more things that they asked for there (employment verification and certification of miscellaneous deposits), which I did by the end of the same day. Now I am waiting. I hope they submitted me to HPD by the following week, but I am waiting. I will give them a call next week to find out the status, if I don't hear anything soon. I am up for a studio in a nice new building in Brooklyn, loads of amenities, I just need to see the size as the developer does not have dimensions on their floor plans... Funnily enough with these things, I usually apply with a view towards studios because that is what is usually affordable for me in my income bracket, but often get invited for a one bedroom that is over the rent I can pay!

Any cash app applies if the deposits show up in your bank account. So be prepared to explain what those are.

The waiting is very hard! I wrote to inquire last week and got the usual "still processing" response. But I see that my credit was checked by somebody on Monday so hopefully that is a good sign that things are moving along. Like I said, there is no doubt I qualify, but timing is key, I will need to have this new place secured by late February or else I will need to renew my present lease.

I’m a college student looking into this so far I have two jobs but just starting working my second job and it’ll be my first time living on my own well getting an apartment what happens if I don’t have a credit score yet will I have to wait til I do? And I don’t have a tax return will I have to wait til next year to do so I can see how much I made this year, how does this work for new people?
