Thank you all for taking the time to assist me. I was told there are two supermarkets in Socorro. Following the links on the Chamber of Commerce website I discovered the local realtor in Magdalena has a website that list houses for rent. The internet is a wonderful thing.

Mescalero is the Indian Reservation just outside of Ruidoso, NM. It also includes Ski Apache at Sierra Blanca (12003 ft). Ruidoso is a small village in southern New Mexico (about 10,000 people) in the Sacranmento mountains at about 7000 feet. It is a very tourist village. It is absoulety beautiful with tall ponderosa pines everywhere.

Since "Mescalero" is a large Indian reservation, it has limited accommodations for tourists/outsiders. But anyone wanting to experience the area can stay at the premiere resort owned and operated by the Mescalero Apache tribe:

Other information on Mescalero can be found by searching online using Google and other internet search features.

We drove through a few years ago. Stunning scenery. Think the old TV show Bonanza.

It has been a year and a half since I last posted on this thread. I found it from the thread on Magdalena that was recently posted. Not much changed except not being able to afford a trip to NM for quite a while. Stuff happened that cost more than expected.

We still want to try snow birding and will probably do so in a couple of years when this mortgage is paid off. I still look at house prices in Socorro and Magdalena and I think some of the places available two years ago are still on the market. I have noticed several "McMansions" have been built but are not selling at original asking prices.

davepr55 - Get a copy of the Benchmark New Mexico Road and Recreation Atlas to plan your next survey trip. There is one city, Farmington, and several towns, some very small, within 100 miles of Four Corners.
