For sure, for sure. And remember, in the summer, when you're really overheating, if you have a car, jump in it and head east on to Highway 82. Go up in elevation 4,000 feet to Cloudcroft, NM. Takes about 20 minutes ta get up the hill to Cloudcroft from Alamogordo. You'll not only find a charming town that's been there since 1899, you'll find the train trestle hike that takes you to the old orignal train trestle that took a big 'ole wide turn just before the track got to Cloudcroft.
Lots of interesting history can be had here - and, in the history books you'll see that Alamogordo got it's start as a railroad town, in 1898. The roads were platted out, and, here's something I learned about how and why the roads go how they do here. Anyone that's driven around in Alamogordo knows that the road they're on will often stop, and to continue on that road you'll have to turn right or left and go down the adjoining road 30-40-50 feet before you can turn back on to the road you were on before.
Know the reason for that, drivers? The roads were built that way by city father's to slow down their kids in their old Model T Ford's! No kidding. Now, you've got to appreciate that kind of brilliant engineering, don't ya? Building for a better future.
Lots of love and back-patting here. And why not?: it's Christmas time. If you move somewhere in these "Divided States of America" let's not forget how (and why) all of this posting got started: city-data.com: where you will find demographics/statistics on how many churches, how "We the People" vote (or not at all), rental and housing costs, support for schools and police/sheriff ('gordo), even the weather and much more. In fact my daughter (once in law enforcement) was told to go on this site to learn about the population she'd be policing.
So my message at this wonderful time of year is when you move (or not) there really is no need for ambivalence ALL due to: city-data.com
Merry Christmas
