My sister, Linda Lea and her husband Burt Rubinowitz at 59 Bear Lane...any news of them? I've tried calling and no luck. Worried sick. Please let me know if anyone knows anything...thanks
Just spoke to my folks, winds are calm, the air fight has ended as darkness has fallen, Type III fire crews are on scene with more resources due in mid morning tomorrow.
So far by scanner talk 6 to 8 homes have burned, with 15 "other" structures down, 70 more home in danger of a direct hit right now. Fire is "hooking" at this point which means its changing directions at any given time, so far the golf course is in the direct path of it.
Fire started around 2pm today, no word on what kicked it off.
The fire IS NOT contained, this is a rumor that is going around the town, however fire crews just stopped at my folks house telling them its not contained. Per the fire crews the planes are done because its dark and will be back at first light.
Fire crews are on the ground working all night.
Godspeed to all in the area. First light will give us a good idea of where its goin.
I just talked with the communications at the fire station in Timberon. It was a very brief conversation as the phones were ringing. 8 fire crews are there and seem to have the fire surrounded, did not find out if evacuations are continueing. Our house on Homewood is OK so far.
So sorry to hear about Spud's house. All are in our prayers. It is a terrifying time.
Double EE
Also, our thoughts & prayers are with everyone there - actually living through this ordeal!! It's tough being 8 hours away & not knowing what is going on...but after watching the Norris video... we can't imagine how awful it is up close & personal!
Very glad that your place is OK!! Our place is also on Homewood.............. we just put up the garage last year & are looking forward to coming over next month & putting a loft up.......
Just got a call, evacuations are still on, more being evacuated it jumped a line they were trying to set up...
krqe and koat both .com are covering the story not very well though... Folks said they just saw a bunch of Forestry Fire Trucks come driving past the house heading for the lines.. I assume thats the Type III crew that was called in.
Structures Burned: 3-5 (cannot confirm the types of buildings lost)
Evacuations (Y or N & #): Yes. According to State Police, residents in the Timberon area have been asked to evacuate. A shelter has been set up at Cloudcroft High School. Crews from the surrounding volunteer fire departments, US Forest Service and New Mexico State Forestry have been battling the fire. Two heavy air tankers were utilized on the fire earlier this evening and two additional planes have been ordered.
A Type III Incident Management Team has been assigned to the fire, which will allow additional resources to be brought in to fight the fire. They will assume control of the fire this evening.
Thanks for the fire site it wasn't updated earlier. I am being told that they have town pretty much sealed off, if you're at your home they know it, and will ask people to leave as the need arises. My folks said its almost like a full moon at their house because the glow of the flames.. praying no one gets hurt at all during this thing..
For what it's worth, my mom also just talked with people at the fire station in Timberon. She's about 3 miles east from where the fire started. They seemed to think it was under control (meaning they are still fighting it but it's not spreading.) They didn't say she needed to evacuate. Earlier she could see tons of smoke from her house just east of the golf course. Now she says it's clear and she can't smell anything. She said there is only a light breeze, so let's pray the the wind stays down.
Thats terrific news themiria, lets hope it stays that way. Night time is always the "best" time for fires because they just quiet down like a kid, but when morning hits the flare, so I hope they get the upper hand on this thing tonight so in the morning theres not much to worry. If I get any news I will let you all know.
God bless to all those there, and to everyone who has famiy and/or property there.
