I'm lucky to have had 1 grandmother whom was older when I was young {she was born in 1883}. I remember the stories she'd tell. {me being one of the older grand children }
I can tell you one part now of how difficult it was for them....they lived in a *sod* house on the Kansas and Nebraska plains. There's an old photo of her standing in front of it.
And she was a middle child of 10 kids
Finally to Kansas, more permanent for many of them. Some to Illinois. A few still back east- mostly Ohio.
{some were more south such as Arkansas Tennessee etc.}
That's one side of the family.
I've been back and forth over the years, different states.
She never talked much about it as she did the other stories...but, the Scottish side -HAD- to leave Scotland. A political type thing, live or die, came to America... I remember, what she told tho
Tho.....my siblings are too young to be able to remember these stories nearly as well. When she would 'watch' us over night at times or a weekend night treat staying with her....at bed time, I'd Plead with her...."Tell me again about Uncle Deev" or some of the other older family stories....Luved to listen to her......
My youngest sis has been working on the genealogy a little, maybe someday we'll have much more
I Do, miss that relative Most of all. She had much to do with my make-up, taught me alot, probably why I'm Soooo old fashioned
I'd always thought many people had unusual family histories LOL I'm sure they do....imagine the books, if we all wrote
