My family and I are planning a move this summer from to the Valencia County area. I have two boys, one in high school, the other in middle school. I have searched these forums and found little information on schools in the area. Of the three schools, Belen HS, Los Lunas HS and Valencia HS, which of these is a better fit for a student active in basketball (sports in general) and academically inclined? If you have an opinion regarding violence in the schools, I would greatly appreciate that information as well. Overall, this move will not be an easy one for the kids, I hope to find a community where they will be able to make friends easily and maybe join a pick-up game or two of basketball. Albuquerque at this point is not out of the question, but commuting could be very difficult for my husband. We are trying to stay as close to Los Lunas/Belen as possible. I greatly appreciate any feedback!

I do not know anything about Belen HS but Valencia and Los Lunas have been in the paper over the last few months for different issues, you may want to do some google searches before considering either of those schools.

My nephew & niece graduated with honors (and a full 4 year ride to UNM) last year.

I'd say that if your kid is one who is self motivated, doesn't hang with the bad crowd, etc then he'll do fine.
