This is a somewhat lengthy post so I apoligize in advance. I'm originally from Atlanta and just moved to Asbury Park a few months ago. I'm looking to move closer to Manhattan so I was wondering what everyone's suggestions are. I have looked at both JC and Hoboken. However, I am not so sure about either town. Hoboken is out of my price range and JC seems to be not the safest place unless you are willing to live by the waterfront which is just as expensive as Hoboken. Below is what I am looking for in a place to live. By the way, I'm a single guy, 29 years old, and will be living alone.
-Looking for something around $1,000 a month or lower.
-Looking for a quick commute to Manhattan for hanging out in my free time.
-Looking for some place relatively safe.
-Ideally would like to be near public transportation but probably not possible due to my price range.
-I don't care about night life or the feel of the neighborhood. I plan to be spending most of my free time in Manhattan. So would like for it to be relatively easy to come home after a night of drinking without having to worry about driving.
-I have to keep my car as I work in Paramus, NJ.
Some other information is I have spent a lot of time in the Journal Square area. I have walked to and from the station at all hours of the night. There is an old lady nearby charges 8 bucks for parking. I am somewhat comfortable with JS but I do try to "watch my back".
Also, I'm not so sure about the area around the Grove Street station. I heard it was nice (and expensive) but I did see someone get stabbed there a few months ago.
So.....what are the recommendations for JC, Hoboken, or the surrounding towns that might meet my needs?
Bayonne - it fits most every requirement you listed. It's 25 min to Manhattan, you can find places for $900 - $1100 for a studio, single or small two bedroom. It's only about 10 - 15 min to journal square. Check it out.
Do not move to NJ if you are going to be staying in Manhatten most of the time. The PATH STOPS RUNNING every night at late hours. You will be stuck in NYC.
Go find a place in Queens or Brooklyn instead. You will enjoy it alot more and not have to worry about the PATH and expensive cab rides averaging atleast $50 one way to NJ. Also, alot of cabs will REFUSE to drive you back to NJ because they dont want to be bothered. Another thing most people from NJ wont tell you.

FALSE. The PATH runs 24-hours. Late at night, it runs every 30 minutes or so (just as frequent as most NYC subway lines run late at night) ... that is the longest you'll wait.
Why do you give false information so often?
