Newark has a couple of nice areas, mentioned above, I would stay away from it though.

Roseville seems pretty decent, also University Heights. Forest Hills is also pretty nice. A lot of nice stately houses over there.

I agree. Forest Hills looks like a nice suburban neighborhood in Mayberry USA. It has some affordable Victorian homes. However, I am sure that break-ins are an issue here as well.
