i use commerce. we have a simple relationship and they have yet to let me down.
I had one overdraft and they charged me $35, that's not too big a deal. But then for every 24 hours I went without balancing it, I got fined another $35, even though I didn't use my check card. The sad thing is I didn't have the money to balance it so I just kept getting worse and worse everyday.
Commerce Bank/TD Bank is the best. I was very nervous about TD taking over, but so far, things have been pretty much the same, except for a logo change and a color scheme change from red/blue to green/purple. They offer free coin counting, late and Sunday hours, free cashier's checks (there's a limit each month I think), and give you instant debit cards. They have tons and tons of branches in the area as well.
I once overdrew my checking account by mistake, and I called and asked nicely for them to reverse the charges since I didn't have any other problems. They did.
I'm a bit fed up with Wachovia because they charge $35 for each ATM overdraft, but they always calculate it in the method that pays them the most, meaning if say you have $50 in the bank and withdrawals come in for $4.23, $15 and $60, they will process the $60 first then charge you 3 times $35 for all 3 bounces.
Sometimes they cut you a break but only a limited number of times, and then its not the full amount.
see if you can join a credit union. far surpasses any bank.
