We are a young couple relocating to Parsippany from CA. I will be working in the suburbs (Parsippany) and my fiance will most probably be working in Newark or NYC. We have each handled a 1 1/2 hour commute so that is not a huge concern. We are both 25 and although we are "over" the college thing (Hoboken), we would like to live in a fun area near city transit. Our general 1 br. apartment price range is $1,300 to $1,600. We are willing to give up space/amenities to live in an upscale (safe) area.
If you can provide any advice, I would appreciate it very much.
Just kind of guesing for starters, if you where to look around a place like Caldwell/West Caldwell, you'd be close to Pars and on the old Bloomfield Ave which is one of the oldest roads heading east towards NYC.
Might suggest looking at the transit options, NJ Transit website and fig out what the eastern commute might entail.
That's just for starters, you could go north, south, etc all over as Parsippany has 3 Interstates interesting there and a few other major roads. I think the bigger question is the best way to crawl in & out of NYC each day. Usually getting into & out of NY will consume the most time and hassle.
Montclair is an option. Concern yourself most with the commute to NYC/Newark. Being east of Parsippany you will be going opposite of traffic and that commute will be a breeze.
Hoboken would be OK, it's not all college kids. There are plenty of places to go where it's a more grown up crowd. However, I would only recommend it if you had a place with parking included.
Jersey City, downtown would be a good option as well. But the parking comment applies here as well.
Depends what density and environment you are used to. Hoboken is like NJ's side of NYC.
