Why doesn't your realtor think it will help? Specifically? If that's her experience, and she has a large enough sampling to draw conclusions from, I would still want to know why. As far as the theft aspect, perhaps that's just a statement reinforcing or justifying her already (decided upon) stated position. Perhaps she's right. I don't know.
Would it hurt? Exposure, or at least the opportunity to gain exposure---could that hurt?
This sounds like it is potentially a very "close-minded" position for the agent to have. Open houses are almost the "norm" today and they are generally and widely accpeted. Unless she has good, justifiable reasons, you should have it. You may want to consider a new agent if she is dead-set against it and doesn't put all possible effort into marketing, both this way and others.
