I love Atlantic city, but Vegas blows it away.

I think AC needs more of a strip. its a pain in the butt to hop from place to place when you need to get in your car and pay a $5 parking fee everywhere you go. especially if you have had a few drinks.

why dont they run frequent shuttle buses between the casinos for free?

They need to do something in my opinion. the MGM grand and Pinnacle casinos they are building have ceased development due to the economy.

There are really only 4 casinos i like down there (Borgata, Ceasars, Taj, and Tropicana) And there are only about 10 casinos in total.

With the beach right there it seems like AC could become a major vacation spot. But it doesnt seem to be living up to its potential since no one outside of the north east goes to AC....

I always felt the BOARDWALK was more like the Strip.

However, the boardwalk has beaches and all positive...whereas the Strip, you often have to go through the guys handing out all the hooker cards in a tiny little strip of sidewalk that you can't avoid.

appararently the wall street people don't have money to play with ..

just kidding.

there is another nice casino in connecticut ...

also pennsylvania now has few casinos now that is growing in business.

i guess nj loses business because of that and due online gambling.
i mean u can be in your door room or a nice beach and play online.

Will it ever become a "new" Las vegas?

NO!!!!

Too many expenses in the "other" category. Too many regulations, Too many unions, too much government.

The word to make things happen in New Jersey is GREASE. It's easier to simply stay away.

In the mean time it is worth a moderate investment to take away the easy cash.

Not a bad idea about the shuttle GiantsRugtersFan. In Vegas they have shuttles and trollies and a few casinos even share a monorail. They just completed a total monorail system but it dont stop at casinos. It's basicly to carry one from the airport to the convention center. And the monorail is so broke they cant afford to run the 2 year old cars anymore.

Call the boardwalk the strip. Better views anyway. No illegal aliens handing out the Hooker cards.

I remember when NJ casinos were just being discussed. The casinos promised to revitalize AC from the dumpy slums it is to a modern city. To this day the casinos have not invested one thin dime in the city. Once you go one block back from the casinos it is deep dark dangerous slums.

It will never be a Vegas. 2 different animals. I also cant say much good about Vegas having just leaving there 7 months ago after spending 10 years there. People who live in Vegas rarely go to the strip. People in NJ enjoy going to AC.

Both places are rip offs. The day of the $2 buffet are long long gone.

Atlantic city is a dump..Except for the casino section. Nobody wants to venture away. I agree with previously said - its a pain to have to move your car from garage to garage. There should be some shuttle system.. Vegas - seems everything is connected somehow.

Its unfortante AC was built in such a trash city. I dont think anything they do there will fix things.

Atlantic City is a slum you'd probablly get shot if you ventured away from the casinos. AC will never be able to compete with Las Vegas because it will never have the sheer amount of ammenties of Las Vegas due to its size and location.

I think the best bet would be to let AC slowly disappear. Just let it keep losing population and turn into a quieter town.

Seems like they could easily fix things, but they just don't. If they knocked down the ****ty run down plazas and what-not and built upscale shops and restaurants like they did with The Walk (wasn't the spot where The Walk was a slum? Now it's nice), I bet they could revitalize the whole city. They could also kick out all the riff raff and build condos or townhomes and stuff like they are trying to do on certain residential streets. Or at least create some kind of tourist attraction other than the casinos. There just needs to be a lot of investment in the city from big businesses. It seems like that was starting to come into fruition about 2-3 years ago, but of course the mortgage mess and credit crisis ruined those chances.

Exactly my thought... AC has a lot of potential if they actually did something about it. Towards the end on one side all there is is run down buildings...

I don't think AC could ever compete with Las Vegas though... they would have to put a whole lot of money into it for that to happend.

Tearing down the city and replacing the run down buildings with upsale shops and restaurants sounds good in theory but it will never work. With the economy now people are spending less and less money on vaction and if the construction was started on all of these projects it probablly woud be left half finished. Also AC doesn't call for upscale shops and restaurants, there are some wealthy tourists but the people who live there are dirt poor and a lot of people who visit are being bussed in from Philadelphia and Trenton.
