What do you all think about the possibility of commuting from hoboken (or jersey city) to East Brunswick (exit 9)? It would be a reverse commute, and mostly on the turnpike, so I dont think traffic will be that bad. Its 35 miles.
I am also entertaining the idea of Park Slope to East Brunswick, but I think the traffic on the SI expressway will be much worse that the turnpike.
This would most likely only be for a few years, as we will be eventually moving to Westfield. Thanks...
Not a bad commute, especially in the morning. I did a similar commute--Port Imperial (WNY) to Sayreville--for almost two years, and it was just fine. 40 minutes door to door on most days. (My record was 32 minutes. ) EB has a lot more traffic than Sayreville, so it would kind of depend on where you will be going to predict how long that would take. I would say most days that would take 45-60 min. in the mornings. In the evenings the traffic will be more variable and can be pretty heavy as people head toward the tunnels--you'd be looking at an hour+ most days, unless you have very flexible hours. My commute wasn't bad because I was a teacher, so I was usually returning home before the heavy traffic hit.
Traffic on 18 is bad, but since you're doing it in reverse, it won't be that bad. However, you're still going to hit traffic going to and from the Turnpike on Exit 9.
You may want to look into getting off at 8A instead.
As a question, if you are working in East Brunswick, why are you staying in Hoboken?
Well, we will be moving from Manhattan, and myself (and the wife) aren't fully ready for the commitment to "the burbs" just yet...She will also be keeping her job in Midtown.
Like Sweep said, you should prob get off at 8A f you are going to Cranbury Rd. I think your commute will be approx 45 min as you're going against the traffic. Seems pretty reasonable to me
Thanks....Do you guys think the drive from Brooklyn via the SI expressway would be much worse...I've never been on during rush hour but have heard horror stories.
Thanks...Is the traffic in EB that bad? I will be coming from the turnpike to Cranberry Rd...Without traffic it took me about 10 mins.
I have seen lots of Traffic at certain times of day between the Tpke and Cranberry Rd. The travel agency I still work for is at Cranberry and Rt 18, so I used to go that way all the time.

I have, and its not fun. It is far worst.
