Edison is a great town, I love the neighborhood. The school systems are amazing. We have an offer on our house (realtor knocked on our door), and I'm not sure that I want to move before my child graduates - that's how strongly I feel about the school system. They also have after-school clubs as sports are huge here.
Edison has a train station for really easy access into NY. The crime here is low (or under-reported, not sure which). There is Edison and North Edison - the latter having nicer and more expensive homes. ($500+).
There is a VERY large Indian/Asian population and houses do sell very quickly here. Tons of shopping all around with malls closeby. Hope that helps.
Edited to add that taxes are high, just like everywhere else in NJ.
