I very rarely gamble and the only time I really "won" wasn't really winning. I was at Showboat around 2am on a Tuesday with some friends who were 21-23. I was only 19, but looked older. Hit up roulette and was playing conservative only betting $5 or so. Not wanting to draw attention I walked away up around $300 after hitting my number a couple times.
I headed over the Caribbean stud table and started playing. I didn't pony up the $1 a hand for the jackpot as I knew that if I hit anything I was SOL. Played with the minimum bet and was doing OK with the dealer occasionally trying to encourage me to put the $1 in. Wouldn't you know it, I get dealt a friggin royal flush. Would have been worth a few hundred thousand in the jackpot. Everyone at the table was dumbfounded and couldn't believe I wasn't playing the jackpot pool. I calmly got up, cashed out and left.
Since that day casino karma has been a total b$tch to me.
Wow. I would have been been a mess if that happened to me
my mom won $2500 in the slot machine. Took her over 2 hours to get the money and then she turned around and gave all back + more in less than 5 minutes at the table.

I was for a little while thinking of all the possibilities for the money. However, I quickly sobered up and realized it didn't matter. If I had won, I would have never been able to collect and probably would have ended up in some kind of legal trouble. It was the universe's way of telling me not to sneak into casino's and gamble underage.

The most I ever won was $90-something, in a nickel video poker machine. That was back in the good old days where the money actually came out of the machine...it was fun watching nickels pour out for like 5 minutes, then I had to carry 6 or 7 buckets of nickels to the cashier! It was cool though, and that's what makes it a fun memory, it wouldn't have been the same to get a paper ticket instead.
I won a $1000 once on Monopoly machine at Showboat. Al the people playing the jackpot won as well.... it was my birthday as well.... never won again after that
I don't gamble much, but once in a while I'll blow a little bit just for some fun and excitement. One time, I went down with some friends with about $200. I had always played only slots and machines before, but that day I discovered roulette. I was down to my last $5, and had a good roll. Ended up breaking even, which was good enough for me. It was like a free trip!
Another cool story about the perils of gambling, even though I didn't witness it first-hand: my parents used to sometimes drive down for a day trip, again just to spend a little money and have some fun. My brother and I used to like to tag along as kids and just play on the boardwalk or in the arcades. At the end of one day, my father told me that a guy playing next to him lost all his money, screamed "I'M RUINED!!!", ripped out the slot machine he was playing, and threw it across the casino. He said it took four cops to restrain the guy. I would have loved to have seen that.

Wow, this thread is still rolling!
OMG! I would have ran to the exit to the nearest bank to deposit it! Your mom must have been kicking herself! WOW!

Zehlder: ROFL! I would have loved to have seen that one too.
An old neighbor of mine goes to the casinos every month and ALWAYS wins 1000.00 in poker! She's 86 lol....Unreal.

Yes, but poker is the one game where you aren't playing against the house, hence your own personal ability and knowledge of the game comes into play versus the other players. There is such a thing as being a "good" poker player. There is no such thing as being "good" at any other game in the casino, just lucky.
