I want to be as close to the nice Park Ave area of Rutherford. Are the areas right on the other side of the tracks nice and OK? I can't tell...it looks different but thats all I can tell..thanks

It depends what your definition of "nice and OK" is? Rutherford is certainly considered more upscale than East Rutherford but I wouldn't consider the area near the train station to be much different regardless of what side of the tracks you are on. The area is very safe.
When we drove through both looked safe enough, although the "other side" definitely had a more blue collar feel to it.
Hard to describe really, but you just look at the stores, restaurants and such and get a general feeling for the atmosphere.
If I were you, I would find a few times to go visit (during a workday, during a non-holiday weekend, etc) to get a feel for the area and the people walking/driving around....
