I have (perhaps unfortunately ) become a walking encylopedia when it comes to Newark Airport. When I first got assigned to the group that I worked with for the last 15 years or so (before retiring ) there was a Port Authority Officer in the group that was the expert on the airport. Having worked with him for years and being in and out of the airport for so long I guess it kind of rubbed off on me.

Here are the 2006 Statistics-- But this includes the World-

Busiest Airports - The Busiest Airports in the World

I still think that since 2001 the security at Newark is strict.

Diane don't get to much of a warm and fuzzy feeling about the majority of security people that work at EWR. The people that work for the T.S.A. are pretty much the same cast of characters that worked for Haynes Security prior to 9-11, except for the ones that were discovered to have felony criminal pasts after the hiring frenzy that the T.S.A. brought about. Those people were hired by the T.S.A. prior to getting complete background checks so they all had to be scooped up and dealt with. The big difference is that now that they work for the T.S.A. they make twice as much money as before. I agree that the rules themselves are strict however the people enforcing them leave a bit to be desired at times.

Default Airport Signs

Yes, the signs are crazy.

Just remember when leaving the airport to get directions BEFORE you drive onto the highway.

If by some chance you failed to get directions, then it's every man for himself.

If you get lost on a residential street and you see some guys hanging out DO NOT STOP FOR DIRECTIONS.

Make every move (legal and illegal) that you can make without hurting anyone to get back to the highway.

Maybe a Newark officer will see you and pull you over and get you back to safety.

I would rather be pulled over and ticketed, but given good directions anytime in any city.
