I am moving to new jersey.my husband is already working in weehawken.we are finding a house on rent .we have a six year old son .Been through many sites,I thought ridgewood is a good school district. But RENT OVER HERE IS QUIET HIGH.I even thought about ridgefield park.It is a good school district and rent is quiet cheap. Some of my friends are suggesting rutherford but the schools dont have good rating .I am kinda confused now.which is good and surely safe to live among these three. Please help.
Assuming everything else is equal, the most I could suggest is you'll have to do a cost-benefit analysis between the rents and school ratings; and based on your statements it seems Ridgefield Park is the way to go.
Ridgefield Park is a great value in terms of bang-for-your buck, close to Weehawken, etc. That being said, I don't think the school system there is better than Rutherford's is -- and while neither is anywhere close to Ridgewood, they are both more than decent school systems, and if somewhere like Ridgewood isn't in the budget (not to mention the worse commute) both are perfectly good choices.
Rutherford doesn't have good schools? Yes they do. Are they Ridgewood caliber? No, but Rutherford isn't nearly as affluent as Ridgewood. But they are good.
I'd think of Rutherford as a happy medium between Ridgefield Park and Ridgewood. It's a good, safe town that provides good bang for the buck.

I've lived in Rutherford; I grew up a town away from Ridgewood and we are now on our way out of Fort Lee, which neighbors Ridgefield Park. I'd have to agree that Rutherford would be a happy medium. And it's got a decent downtown.
Southern Bergen County? Oh very dangerous place according to many people on these forums. The schools are so terrible south of Maywood. It is a proven fact that children lose IQ points every time they pass the Garden State Plaza. Best not cheap out on the future of your children and live in Ridgewood. Why anyone would want to live in any other town is beyond me!

I agree with Rutherford as the happy medium. I grew up in Ridgefield, have friends in Ridgefield Park and a close friend with children who has lived in Rutherford her entire life. I'd choose Rutherford over Ridgefield Park in a heart beat. I know she is happy with the school system.
