So... The schools appear great, it's close to the city, and yet... a number of houses are showing price reductions! I recognize that we're in a bit of an economic crunch now, but do you have any sense of what else might be going on? Thoughts welcomed!

when compared to the other towns, it does not appear as "rich." areas like edgewater for example are far more attractive to buyers.

what puzzles me about Ridgefield Park is that the average income is $59,000 household, but they have one of the best schools in NJ, or am I reading the incorrect data, the Grant Elementary school in Ridgefield Park is ranking top 20 of NJ.

they have a smaller school with the right balance of administrators, teachers, and parents. average income and parental involvement are 2 different things.

There are many short sales in Ridgefield Park. They generally sell under market value, so that drives prices down.

The houses are also mostly older, on smaller plots and some don't have driveways. Still a great town as far as I'm concerned though, if we decide to buy in Bergen County it's going to be a town we strongly consider.

2blivinginnj.......I would probably disagree with you about Ridgefield Park. I grew up in Bergen County (Oradell) and my mom and her family grew up in RF Park. It was nice in the 70's, but its a dump now, sorry. I would visit the schools when you have time. Compared to other towns in Bergen County, RF Park is probably at the bottom in terms of public schools. There's a reason the houses are so cheap compared to almost anywhere else in Bergen County. Try Dumont, Bergenfield, New Milford or a town like that. Its a little cheaper than the big time towns in Bergen cty, and the school systems and your neighbors will be a step up from Ridgefield Park....Good Luck in your search!

I'd hate to see what you think of a town that actually is a dump.

The Bergen County suburban bubble rears its ugly, misinformed head yet again.
