Lots of sex offenders on the registry. Would this stop you from moving there with young kids? Is it mostly south Toms River? I've been looking to relocate and TR looks like a nice place to raise a family until I found out about the amount of sex offenders there.

Ive lived here for 12 years and I have 5 kids. My family moved here from Jersey City when I was 7 so technically Ive been here for 27 years. There have never been any issues for me. TR is broken into West, East, North and West. My grandmother was also a realtor in TR for 20 years so I know the area pretty well. South is the worst, North is the best especially the areas surrounding the community college. silverton is tops! When you start heading east towards seaside you get more white trash. West is going towards Manchester and is so so but nothing to bad. South alot of minorities. Overall, I LOVE this town. Concentrate on Toms River heading towards Brick and youll be very happy

Keep in mind any sex with a minor has to be registered even if its a consenting 17 year old. There are also levels of sex offenders. Forgot how they are categorized but there are rated from mild to violent. Not saying sleeping with a 17 year old is ok if your an adult but I would prefer that over a violent man with a 5 year old. Google the website family watchdog to find out more about classification and rating

Agree....there are diffferent levels and sex with a consenting 16 or 17 year old is not a "sex offender" in the vision the words sex offender bring to mind.

My sister has lived there for 30 plus years and raised her kids there, it's fine

I live in TR. I was shocked to see the number of sex offenders and while it is true about the 16 or 17 year olds, if you look at the pictures and the addresses (many are in hotels on Rt 37), you realize that this is one of the issues of being a fairly large city.

I wont lie, I am very conscious about this. I have had, on more than one occassion, older men offer my daughter things "just because of how sweet she is." But it's happend outside of Toms River too so you really have to be careful anywhere. Bad things happen everywhere, look at those 2 girls in Iowawho disappeared riding their bikes.

I like Toms River. The schools are average academically but I will say that they went above and beyond helping out families effected by the storm. My daughter received a lot of support from her Principal and teachers when she wanted to talk about our house being flooded. There are lots of activities for the kids both in-school activities and sports.
