Hi all

my apartment has few lights. I could get lamps, but I find that annoying, having to walk to the lamp, I like the switch right at the door. Plus, lamps aren't very bright.

Are there any sort of lights that are like light fixture - they look decent and take normal bulbs - but that you mount onto the ceiling as though they were hard-wired lights, and then you just tape the wire to the ceiling and run it along to down the wall and into the outlet/receptacle? And then you do the same with the switch but mount that on the wall

Is there anything out there like that?

Look for a hanging fixture called a swag light. Also consider floor lamps as they will give more light. Table lamps are bright if you use higher wattage bulbs.

Yes, you can make floor lamps brighter with different bulbs. Mine has a top I can angle, so that makes more light where I need it. Try a Clapper so you can turn it on when you come in the room, I have heard they really work.

From the ceiling, install a "swag light." You don't tape anything to the ceiling or the wall; you use "swag hooks," one directly above the hanging light and another swag hook above the outlet. For the swag hook above the light, make sure you screw into a ceiling/wall stud to support the weight of the light fixture.

Or as others suggested, use a floor lamp.
