Is it practical to take the 159 bus to the 113 bus in the morning when commuting from Westfield (obviously the north part) to the city? Does my 8 zone monthly (or whatever westfield is) cover the 159's fare too? How about if I take the train after the bus, does my montly train ticket cover the bus fare too?

YES you get unlimited transfers!!!!!!!!!! 8 zone bus or rail monthly can be used on any bus line up to 8 zones. When u transfer you start over from zone 1 and can use that route up to 8 zones infinitely. Plus doesnt 113 go straght to the city what is your FINAL DESTINATION. YES your RAIL PASS WORKS ON BUSES FOR FREE IF ITS A NYP MONTHLY. Make sure you dont use a metro-north one or any metro-north station monthly.
The 113 goes into port authority. Since I work in times sq, and need to get in early (before the traffic), I figured this is the best way
and thanks
TRAFFIC has NO effect on the 113 as the 113 has its own lane at AM rush hour. So traffic will NOT be a problem at all!!!!! Remember your rail pass works on all NJT bus routes in the state up to the number on the pass

Not entirely true. The 113 bus can vary from 50 minutes to (in rare cases) 75 minutes in the morning. I've timed it.
