ewing is suffering from the urban problems spilling over from trenton I would not consider moving to a town in decline
I live in Ewing and am getting out. It is definitely not what it used to be. The elementary schools are good unless you have a gifted child. Their GT does not start until 3rd. Many of the problems facing Trenton are spilling over into Ewing. Also, property taxes are high and due to increase. Not worth it if you ask me. There are some nicer area but it will cost you. My advice do your research and drive around. You could be in what seems to be a nice area then drive a few miles and are in the ghetto.
Ewing is by and large a very nice town; unfortunately there is spill over from Trenton and the neighborhoods immediately bordering Trenton are dicey. There was a shooting in Ewing either last weekend or the weekend before, just past the Trenton border. If you didn't have children I would assure you to move to Ewing whole-heartedly, but I personally would not want children in Ewing because of the risk.
East Windsor, West Windsor, and Plainsboro have large Indian populations and IMO are safer. East Windsor is the more affordable of the three; it is a good town and in the 4 years I have lived in Mercer county, it has grown and is improving. I think anyone who buys there will make a tidy profit when the time comes to sell, if they stay a while.
I just moved out of Ewing - I would not recommend it - taxes are very high and going higher - schools are not good - especially middle and high school. There was a shooting in a main area recently - gangs are taking over. Try Lawenceville, Hamilton, or Hopewell if you can afford it.
I am a former resident of Trenton and I now live in Ewing. No place is crime proof. Where I live in Ewing, I have never heard gunshots. I am not saying that it doesn't happen, but I haven't experienced it and I have been in Ewing for over 5 years. As for Lawrence & Hamilton, they have just as much gang activty as Ewing & Trenton. I would say it would depend on where you move in Ewing, if its the border of Trenton, then I would say no. but if its Lower Ferry Rd., Upper Ferry Rd., Pennington rd, Parkway (near upper ferry) or Scotch Rd you will be fine.
I agree...those areas are certainly better than the rest...but there's also the subject of schools and unless private school is an option then that means Ewing High, which we all know ain't what it used to be... And that's being very kind.
