Without looking at the maps your best bet might be a bus to Newark Penn Station and then a 15 minute PATH train ride to JC. Go to njtransit.com and type in your starting and finishing addresses. It'll give you a few different options.

What part of Jersey City will you be working in. First you take the Montclair line to Hoboken then depending on where you work you will either switch to the PATH for Journal SQ or Historic Downtown or to the Light Rail for Harborside or Exchange Place / Newport.
