I am thinking of moving to Rutherford next summer. At that time my daughter will be in 5th grade. It seems the two middle schools in Rutherford offered grades from 4th to 8th. Does it mean that the 4th graders has no room teacher and home room, or 8th graders still has home room and room teacher? Why the school board separates elementary school into two parts? Any information of the public school system is appreciated.

in NJ elementary school is usually K-5 and middle school is usually 6-8. it is also very normal for towns to have 2 or more of each school depending on the size of the town.

Is that not the case in rutherford?

normally i think you do have some sort of home room up until 8th grade.

I checked the school website and find in Rutherford there are two elementary school of K-3, then two middle school of 4-8, and one high school of 9-12. So I wonder why they merge 4th and 5th into middle school and is there any pros/cons.

Hello there,

I'm actually thinking of moving to Rutherford to send my son to Pierrepont Elementary; however, I don't know of anyone whose child attends this school. I'm also concerned about the class sizes (presently my son's class size is 15). He would most likely go to the school for 4th or 5th grade depending on when we purchase our new home. Does anyone have any insight into the school's academic reputation? Is the student population diverse? Any insight is most appreciated.

The average class size at Pierrepont is 18 students.

The makeup of most classes is approximately 85% caucasion 11% asian and the remainder made up of various ethnicities.

Academically, it is a very good elementary school with test scores comparing favorably with many communities north of the Route 17 and 4 corridor.
