I am researching for a next apartment shift that could be 20-30 minutes drive from the liberty science center light rail station( i would be parking there for my job in Washington blvd, jersey city).
like others posters , safety is most critical and also looking for "bang for my bucks" . I am looking for a 2br+2bath (hoping around $1300 pm)
please suggest areas/apartments matches the criteria
20 to 30 minutes to liberty station can cover a lot of real estate, but I will just mention the closer ones. First I agree with the other two posters that the Heights and Downtown are great options. Both are close and pretty safe. Second what about Bayonne? It is pretty safe also and very close to where you are going. I just moved from Bayonne and very little ever happens there in terms of crime. I use to walk around the city at all hours of the night and never felt nervous. As for "bang for your buck" it depends on what you mean by that. If you mean space then Bayonne and The Heights will most certainly have more bang for your buck. If you are talking about amenities then Downtown will have the higher bang for your buck.

-thanks in advance
You're going to be priced out of downtown on that budget.
Bayonne is probably a better choice. Not as convenient to Manhattan (which makes it cheaper) but an easy commute to your job (you could drive or take the light rail).
