My husband is going to be offered a job in NJ. We've been living on the gulf coast of AL for 4 years not, originally from Virginia. We were trying to get back to VA, but it just isn't working out. The job is great for my husband...but we are concerned about location. The main store is in Lakewood, but he'll be a sales manager between Lakewood, Toms River, Cherry Hill, and more. His boss, if he were to take the job, lives in Lumberton (and his regional/travel requirements would mimic that of his boss). I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum, but was going with this one since it included Lumberton.

We're late 30's/early 40's with 2 young children (6 yo, 8 mo) and a large dog. We would be looking to rent initially to make sure we like the area before buying. We're definitely looking for more rural than urban. Looking for a single family home with a large yard, enough room for a vegetable garden, etc. I don't mind driving for shopping, restaurants, etc. Great schools are a priority, as is a nice safe area, and kid-friendly activities.

Ideas from the crowd? We'll probably be flying up there in a couple of weeks to have a look around, but I'd at least like some ideas where to look.

Thanks!

By the way, I'm not sure what sort of price ranges would be looking at...if we can unload our current home, or get some relieve from his company on the mortgage, we could probably do up to about $2400/mth for rent.

Look in Medford. Medford Lakes might be too high, but check there, & Tabernacle.

We moved to Medford from out of state last summer and we love it! You might want to do a little research because there are some issues going on right now with the budget, but we aren't planning on going anywhere. My son is in elementary school and we're very happy with it. It definitely has a rural feel, but isn't far from the important things, like Target... There are plenty of local stores and restaurants so you don't have to leave town if you don't want to. Great community! Anyway, we are renting our house, but will be buying one in Medford when our lease is up. Good luck and let me know if you want to know anything about the town. I got so much help from everyone on here when we were looking.

Medford is a great suggestion given your budget and work area. It's going to have the more rural feel you want, while still being convenient to most things and having great schools. It is also very well situated for your husbands work commutes given the area he will cover. I would have said to also look at Mullica Hill area, but that really won't mesh up well with your husbands work area.

Thanks for all of the responses! We are going to fly up in mid-May to check the area out, but my husband's would-be boss suggested Medford to us as well! We look forward to visiting the area soon.
