We recently moved to Glouchester County, Mantua Township New Jersey, a few months ago, and several times have smelled strong odors of Natural Gas outside (no smell of gas indoors at all) . We thought maybe it migh have been our gas meter leaking, but it wasnt eminating from there. Called the South Jersey Gas Company, who said it might be eminating from Paulsboro (!). He said he was receiving alot of calls from Washington Township also, but thought it might not be gas. He asked for the nearest street intersection from us and said he would send out a truck...
After returning home a few hours later from ur trip, we didn't smell the fumes any more.
Has anyone else had this experience?
(PS., I didn't ask neighbors becuse I didnt want to introdce myself as the new guy that thinks the neighborhood smells bad!)

I work in Pa and in Rydal on one intersection, I can smell natural gas off and on for 20 years. Im guessing an underground leak and under the right conditions it makes it out above ground.

I noticed that you spelled Gloucester like the word is pronounced in New England. It's pronounced Glaw stir in South Jersey. If you're pronouncing it correctly & that was a typo, just ignore me.

What you are most likely smelling is the refinery in Paulsboro. It gives off a lovely bouquet every once in awhile and being in Mantua you are sitting down wind from it.
