Lots of smaller cottages and cabins in the Stark and Columbia area. These areas are pretty isolated, especially if you get away from highway 3.

Hi Paleriders,

There are a lot of places for sale up here. One thing you have to realize winters can be tough. If your house is well insulated you can heat for reasonable money. Most people heat with wood and have oil as a back-up. There are some serious boondocks to explore and some of the best fishing anywhere. My house is at 2000' and winter just hangs on till the very last. Hunting terrain runs from hills, to fields, to some God awful swamps and to some beautiful moss covered forest floors with a high canopy of conifers, that make it seem like your walking in a cathedral with columns of pine. If there is anything I can do for you let me know. It's good to have friends here in the north country.

Beautiful place with a low arctic climate. Best hunting and fishing west of Maine. Be aware you have to bring your own income because this place has not recovered from WW2.

Good point. A lot of people get by and just barely living off the goverment. It got depressing seeing the amount of people that live that way.

Mostly logging up there with a few farms mostly along the Connecticut River, though it seems a lot of people keep a few dairy cows around.. The logging areas are where the hunting is. Lots of good trout and bass fishing in the ponds- and some nice wild trout in the streams including the upper Connecticut.
