Gretna is a nice town - would not hesitate to live there.

That area is growing so in a lot of ways it is still a small town, but because of the growth it is loosing the rural-ness.

If you really want that part of the region, but depending on what you want and how far out might also check out Springfield (same county) or Ashland (south of Gretna in next county). Several other small towns in the county south but don't know a lot about them from a living perspective (they appear quaint).

Gretna used to be a small town, but it's growing fast. Currently it's very near Omaha since Omaha has grown West. Gretna is growing to the West, and is less then 25 miles from Lincoln, which is building more towards the East.
Look into the towns mentioned above, they are still more small town and rural.

It'll become a suburb of Omaha I'm guessing w/in the decade. IF you want to move closer to Omaha but not to close I would suggest Wahoo. Or somewhere west of the Platte river. But your best bet would probably be to the east in Iowa.

Even though it's not officially a suburb it pretty much feels like one now. I lived in Lincoln up until the end of 2009, and whenever we'd go up to Omaha we'd take HWY 34 to Gretna and into west Omaha from there. There was development (mostly just housing developments) all the way between Gretna and far west Omaha, making it really feel like nothing more than an outer suburb. I'm sure that has filled in quite a bit more since then, and will continue to do so.
