Hi, I thought we found an area that we would be happy and now other people have mentioned additional areas which has confused us. The areas of interest are: Franklin, Nolensville,Murfreesboro and Hendersonville. My husband and I have two children ages 7 and 14. We have 2 dogs so were looking for some space between the houses for them. Are most important interests are schools, and families with children to become friendly with. We wont know anybody when we move and wondering how friendly people are with meeting new families. Thank you for any advice in advance.

You can't go wrong in any of the areas you mentioned. Each place does have a distinct 'style' so to speak, so it might take a visit or two in person to determine which is right for you. I can only personally speak for Murfreesboro as this is where I've lived practically my entire life.

Murfreesboro is a solidly middle-class town with a diverse population located in one of the fastest growing counties in the state. You can find all types of housing here, from million dollar homes to modest ranch houses or mini-farms on acreage. We have lots of shopping choices, varied restaurants, tons of parks and outdoor recreation facilities but if water sports is your thing, you might want to look more at Hendersonville. The newer developments are full of transplants and most are run by HOAs that coordinate social events for its residents.

Murfreesboro also boasts great medical facilities with the new campus of MTMC opening this October in the newly developed medical corridor in the Gateway district. MTSU is one of the largest undergraduate universities in the state but is a huge commuter school so the campus and town doesn't have that typical big school, party atmosphere.

Local public schools are very good with only a handful that should be avoided. There are also a few magnet schools for high-achieving students but they must be tested to gain admittance and competition for the few openings each year is high.

If you have any specific questions about M'boro or Ruterford County I'd be happy to try and answer them here or in a private message. Hopefully those wit more intimate knowledge of Franklin, Nolensville and Hendersonville will chime in with info on those areas as well!

Move to where your work is. Don't commute! I live in Murfreesboro and love it but would move to Nashville before I would make that commute daily.
