We are looking at taking a vacation to Detin, FL. We have never been to that part of Florida. How long of a drive is it from Nashville? Also looking for ideas on where to stay or what part of the Panhandle to vacation at. We are not set on Destin; just here all about it.

Thanks!!!

We last vacationed at the beach in Navarre, FL - it's on the panhandle between Pensacola and Destin. It's a fairly quiet and low-key beach with more beach homes than condos - we liked it *much* better than Destin with it's heavy commercial development and bumper to bumper traffic.

IIRC, it took us about 8 hours total to drive down from Murfreesboro and that included all the potty breaks we had to take for our small kids.

I was going to say about 8 hours. We went to Perdido Key, FL which is on the state line with Alabama (Basically Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Alabama) and had a great time. Much more laid back than Orange Beach...less touristy...fewer restaurants/tourist traps. I've also heard great things about Seaside, which is near Destin.

We love Navarre Beach too. It's lovely and so much less crowded than other spots. We visited Fort Morgan, Alabama last year. It was also pretty quiet compared to other cities on the gulf. It takes us about 8 hours with at least 2 stops along the way.
