I will say I am surprised. Franklin is always touted as the quaint, family area, so I was really caught off guard that there are gangs...I know it happens alot of places, but I just did not expect it in Franklin. (I am from Texas, but have done a lot of research-although not on crime/gangs,etc-and have been to Franklin/Nashville). It wouldn't stop me from coming to the area, just surprised. But I also have a lot of bias of the area because I just love it there and hope to move there, so maybe I have been a little blinded to reality too...
We have gangs in our community too and usually any shootings, etc are amongst the various gang members and not innocent people.

I would disagree with the whole "Gangs are taking over in Cool Springs" theory....because I feel like I'm always safe out there in that area. is there an incident or 2? ....yeah as it shows in the report but most people in the Franklin area aren't used to big city crime so they blow things out of proportion... Now I do feel bad for the mother in the article....I am from Miami and just moved from Orlando and i see a big difference from Miami and Orlando when compared to a lot of areas up here. There are some pockets of ghetto I wouldn't walk around here in the Nashville area, but there are some I wouldn't even drive through while running through stop lights in the Miami area....

Now i know of one area near Belmont that has projects but i drive up 12th ave to pick my mother up from work all the time, but it doesn't seem to have the feeling of "I'm gonna get robbed at this stop light"....

areas i wouldn't go to are across the bridge by downtown in east Nashville

or directly south of downtown near Nolensville although i used to hit up the strip club way back in the late 90's when i lived here for 4 years

I totally agree with this post. A lot of the crime here seems blown out of proportion and it is probably due to the fact that it is not the norm here. I am from South Florida as well and to me the crime here seems pretty mild compared to what we became used to in FL. I just hope police in all the Nashville metro suburbs won't let it grow out of control so it ends up like FL. So while incidents here will happen, perhaps they will serve as a warning and police will get a handle on it before it's too late and too big of a problem to fix.

As someone who has read the articals and as someone who has been privy to the "seedy underside" of Williamson county (due to my former job), i can assure you there is no infestation of gangs running wild. Yes, there have always been some gang issues in Franklin, but a majority of the issue are non violent in nature. If there was an assult/shooting/whatever...it was purp on purp. Yes, thre was a "gang related" incident on 65 in the cool springs area...but i can assure you that the chances of you getting a gun pulled on you by some PO'd "bubba" in his F150 because you cut him off are far greater then to be the victim of some random gang drive by.
And trust me when i say that the PD's in the area are not naive to the issues that they face.

Discalimer...I have nothing against bubbas or F150's ....thanks.
