That alone is a considerable amount of traffic that will be taken out of downtown/440. It doesn't have to be TOTALLY about how much traffic would go around the city to get back onto 40EorW.
ROFL I sure did! Laugh at your rush hour. We flew into Nashville, picked up the rental car and headed west (our destination: Jackson). It was 5 pm. My co-pilot and nagrivator started moaning that we'd be in the worst of rush hour traffic. And traffic was heavy and it wasn't easy trying to read signs, jump highways, 6 lanes, move from right to left without a lot of warning, but it wasn't stop and go or stop and stop. I made him a bet! We'll be out of this so-called rush hour traffic at 5:15. It was 5:16 when he commented that traffic just disappeared.

Rush HOUR around here starts at 4 and the highway is still not clear at 7. And much later if there's an accident. Morning traffic starts at 5:30 AM, so if you want to beat it, gotta be on the road by 5.

The Problem is once you have one Toll, more follow. Ask New Jersey, the toll Booth State. You can't go more than a few miles without hitting one, and IMO, Tennessee has much better roads. They repair them and you do not find that everywhere.

Of course, all of their transportation dollars go to highways and roads, no transit.

Looks like that is slowly changing, however.

where can I find some info on changes they're making in the transit arena?

I know I can probably google it, but if there's anything at the top of your head, let me know.

Last month meetings were held in Goodlettsville, Hendersonville, and Gallatin to discuss the construction of a new commuter line into these cities. They detailed local and state contributions. Also, BRT has started on Gallatin Rd though I'm not sure if the State contributed money to this. I'll try to find some links.

This is simple to answer. I don't know why so many folks have written a full page newspaper article about this on here. The simple answer is because the city of Nashville has made it known in numerous planning meetings that it DOES NOT want to become the next Atlanta. It wants to learn from the mistakes made by Atlanta, and there are plenty, and try to do better with our growth situation. We don't need a "bypass", we need UP-TO-DATE Interstates within the city. The roads, in their current state, are already about 10 years behind where they should be in size and volume. But, that brings up a whole new discussion about Nashville and Mass Transit.

Wow, that's really too bad for your city. Lots of life wasted away stuck in traffic over the decades. That's time you can't get back.

I like it when you can get to where you're going in a city without a lot of hassle.
