I'm in my early 50's, single and have relocated to Nashville for a new job. I'll be working in the metro center (Great Circle Road) and want to get an apartment with an easy commute, in or very near the city center, in the $700-$800 rent range, that's an active area but not too noisy and safe.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I work at MetroCenter (on Great Circle Road) as well. A couple of options for you: Bellevue (I live there); the commute to MetroCenter is fairly easy from there unless there's a traffic jam. There are any number of apartments in the Bellevue area; although I don't keep up with apartment rents, I believe you could find something in the $800 range. Bellevue is a relatively safe area.

Another choice might be the Hendersonville or Goodlettesvile area; I'm less familair with these areas so I can't tell you much about apartment rents but you could put it on your list on places to look.

Alley Cat is right, since my son looked in Bellevue I know you can get a 1 bedroom for under $800. There are some that are more, so you have to look around. He liked the Lakes of Bellevue which was $749 with water included for a decent sized 1 bedroom.

Try calling the apartment buildings in Metro Center. I casually know someone that lives in the building right by the Maxwell House, I don't know the cost of rent (or the name of the place) but he lived there with 2 buddies throughout college so it's probably worth checking into.

I second The Lakes of Bellevue nomination, especially if you are a single male. Safe complex, nice amenities, reasonable rent, and lots of "talent" on the premises, especially at the numerous pools during the summer months.

Be careful with this. MetroCenter is a great area for work, but not the best place to be after the sun goes down. The 37228 zip code has some of the highest crime in Nashville. I don't know much about specific apartment complexes over there, but given the area I would proceed with caution.

You mean the Parc at MetroCenter. My mother lives in those and she quite likes them. It's a very nice, small gated complex. They are very new and clean apartments with great proximity to downtown and midtown.

To add to this... crime is what it is... Metro Center sits slightly north of one of Nashville's worst neighborhoods but I manage to drive down Rosa Parks past Garfield and Jefferson Street all the time.

If you're not comfortable driving through a " rough " neighborhood after dark then I would advise you not to go straight past I-65 headed downtown.

Alleycat was right, Bellevue would probably be your best bet although I would say anywhere off Charlotte West of Briley would be okay too...
