Hi All,
Planning, hoping and dreaming of retiring to the Nashville area late next year and so I'm doing some internet reconnoitering for homes. Looking at Hardison Hills in Franklin and Stonebridge Townhouses in Lebanon. Would like to hear from anyone who is familiar with the areas. Hoping for somewhere walkable - 1.5 miles or less to a shopping area. Local doctors and dentists?

Thanks for any insight.

Susan

You might try looking into the Murfreesboro area.

Hardison HIlls is a nice townhome community. I wouldn't call it "walkable though". It and the couple subdivisions it connects to (Barclay Place connects directly-across from Barclay is Willow Springs which then connects to Franklin Green) you can walk around but the main road going past Hardison Hills is Downs Blvd and there aren't any sidewalks along it. Hardison Hills is close to shopping though. Downtown Franklin, Target/Kroger, and Westhaven (Harris Teeter, Dr. offices/restaurants) is about 1.5 miles too (all opposite directions).

Most of the Nashville area is not pedestrian-friendly.

But Downtown Franklin is very walkable. Maybe you can look at the new condos that have gone up near the Factory - it's an historic building with restaurants, shops and a wonderful Saturday farmers market - Factory at Franklin Shopping Dining Franklin & Nashville, Tn

Alternatively, you could look in Downtown Nashville, Germantown, East Nashville, Sylvan Park, West End, Green Hills, 12 South, etc.

These are just neighborhoods, not specific developments, but they should give you an idea of where to start your search if you'd like a walkable community.

If Stonebridge is where I think it is, the neighborhood itself is nice but it's not walker-friendly outside of it. It's about 1.5 miles from Highway 109, where you'd have some convenience stores and a pizza joint and a wine/spirits store, but no grocery. And I don't think there are sidewalks along Leeville Pike.

The biggest collection of walking-distance-to-shopping homes and townhomes in Wilson County are in the Providence development (Mt. Juliet). There may be some others scattered around, I just don't know of them specifically.
