Does anyone know if there is sandy beach anywhere on the lake? I'd settle for one on Old Hickory Lake also. We moved from the coast where I went kitesurfing about every day. I'd like to give it a try on the lake, but I need a fairly open area....and wind, which may be more of a problem than finding a beach.

Thanks...Ross

Because those two lakes are pretty much man made...not to much luck in finding a sandy beach...sorry...that is the one thing I miss here.

I am also interested in a "beach area". Is there any lake with a beach in the Nashville area or in middle Tn itself?

does rocky beach count? Of course, there is Nashville Shores. Hamilton Creek has a beach but is more rocky than sand. Most of my friends go to the Harpeth River out Hwy 100 and there is a rocky area there where you can hang out or launch canoes.

I think Nashville Shores is about the only thing resembling a beach that I've seen. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it is right next to the dam and there is a water park right there. I think wind will be a problem. You need fairly stable wind which is hard to find on a lake.

I was on a boat yesterday on Percy Priest and we spotted a beach area that looked very nice. It was definitely not Nashville Shores. Does anyone know what area this was?? Someone mentioned it possibly being the Smith Springs Recreational area. Is there a (man made) beach there??

I was just going to mention this area. This is the only beach area that I know of on Priest Lake, other than Nashville Shores. It is well kept and has picnic areas and playgrounds as well as a near by walking trail. I think their is a small fee per car. It is on the north side of Antioch, the area known as the pennisula.

I thik there may still be a beach in the Bakers Groove, or it may be Bryants Groove. Rec. area, which is part of Long Hunter State Park. You would need to google directions for it because it is very confussing to explain, it sits on the eastern most tip of Davidson county surrounded by Rutherford and Wilson Counties to the west and east of it. But as a child I remember going there and it having a sandy beach area.
