First, you need to remove Cookeville from your list. It's much too far away.

You best bet would probably be to look in one of the small towns or communities west or northwest of Nashville. It's about the only areas left that someone might still call "cheap" and still be a nice, safe area.

When you say cheap, what do you mean as your price range? You can get a Studio/1br in Murfreesboro for $500 or less a month, especially now with the spring semester ending and many moving out for the summer. You may have to pay utilities, not 100% sure there.

Have you tried checking or posting ads on Craislist? There is one for the Nashville area.

Look into the Bellevue area of Nashville.. It's just west of downtown, and has a large amount of apartment complexes with reasonable prices. It's also one of the safer areas surrounding Nashville..

I would investigate Murfreesboro. The rent prices are some of the lowest and we also have the Verizon Wireless Call Center in Murfreesboro, who are always hiring, and pay pretty well.

Default Cheap?

How do you define cheap for someone living in the DC area?

If you're not looking to be in Nashville but want to be within 45 minutes, try Hendersonville. I know a great apartment building right on the lake that is cheaper than a Dickerson Rd. hooker, and I think they have vacancies. It's not plush, but it's extremely safe, in a great area, and 30 minutes from downtown Nashville.

Regarding customer care jobs, they are everywhere in Nashville. Grab the Sunday paper, get on Monster and CareerBuilder, and send out 5-10 resumes per day. You'll get some bites. If you get desperate, there are staffing services all over the place that can have you working within a week.

Just get to Hendersonville before Memorial Day so you won't miss out on the lake festivities, and worry about work once you're here. Once again, it shouldn't take more than a few days to find employment in our job market.
