Hi,
My wife and I are thinking of moving to this area, we would like to board and train horses, she is a Equine Tech/trainer, I operate a series of Martial Art Schools, how is the area and since we have no kids we are looking for rural yet somewhat close to everything, we live in New York as of now. I feel with the Military Base close by it has a steady influx of people, I am former US Army myself. Thanks for all replys.

I'm down in GA now but spent 13 years in C'ville. I try to visit each summer and am amazed at the growth since I officially moved in 1997.

You can move out to Dover, Dickson, Cumberland Furnace and even just out near Montgomery Central High School to get the country feel but be close enough to do everything you want.

Feel free to send me a message if you have more specific questions and want some help gathering info.

Best of luck to you.

Crime is bad in Clarksville, really bad for a town its size. Other than the 4 Wal-Marts, a small mall and Best Buy and Target along Wilma Rudolph Blvd, there isnt much to do. Seriously, look closer to Nashville, its much nicer that way.

Amen to that! It was already terrible when I moved and my parents constantly send me the Leaf Chronicle, circling yet another murder, home invasion and other violent crimes.

I'll never forget the day after the Taco Bell Murders.

I dont recall that one. I moved out of that horrid town after 4 months and came back home. I remember trying to come home one day and finding a cop car burning on the road. I guess both cops were shot at and both died. I still remember driving down that road and seeing the burn marks on the pavement. Yes, Clarsksville is the armpit of Tennessee no doubt. If youre not in the military, the town isnt for you.

After the discovery of the bodies, the City of Clarksville was in shock to believe a crime like this could occur here. immediately, the Clarksville Police Department and the District Attorney's office became involved in the case. Shortly after the discovery of the bodies, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's crime scene team was called to Clarksville. As anxious family members and concerned citizens watched, the processing of the crime scene was not completed until the early morning hours of January 31. Clarksville became a national point of interest and media representatives from all over the country began to come to Clarksville. The command post was set up in the department's detective division and members from the Clarksville Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, the F.B.I., the T.B.I., Ft. Campbell Criminal Investigations Division and Austin Peay Security all came together under the direction of Captain Doug Pectol, C.P.D. and Special Agent in Charge of he T.B.I. Middle Tennessee District, Jim Taylor. The purpose of all the agencies was to follow leads and attempt to find the perpetrator. Shortly after the commission of the crime, through day and night work, Courtney Mathews was arrested for the Taco Bell murders. He was subsequently convicted of those crimes but the City of Clarksville will never forget that terrible period of time.

Those of us who lived there at the time will probably never forget it. Taco Bell left the structure exterior but gutted the restaurant and started over. There is a memorial in the garden facing Riverside Drive.

Default relocatiing to Clarksville but concerned about crime

My wife and I will be bringing our Son to Clarksville to attend APSU. Seems strange that the T.B.I/F.B.I ranked APSU as one of the safest campuses in TN/Nation and yet the crime in Clarksville seems very bad for a medium sized city. We questioned some of the faculty and they were very reluctant to refer us to a certain nieghborhood or section of town to live in. Is there a specific source of the crime ie. Meth, gangs etc. ?? We currently live in very "liberal" Oregon and it is a cesspool of miss guided politics and never ending taxes. Everything in Tennessee is more affordable across the board, housing, food, gas etc. Should my wife and I look to live closer to Nashville instead of staying closer to APSU..?? I,m disabled and my wife is a nurse and was looking forward to working at the new hospital in Clarksville. Any and all opinions are most welcome because we have never lived in the South but are looking forward to a change. Thanks Thomas in Central Oregon.

Yes, do yourself a favor and steer clear of Clarksville. Its basically two strips (Wilma Rudolph Blvd and Ft. Campbell Blvd) with not much to do, surprisingly, for a small town. Theres quite a few strip clubs, bars, army surplus stores, etc. Wilma Rudolph Blvd has a small mall and some restaurants/hotels, but thats about it. And yes, crime is bad, real bad in Clarksville. I could only put up with the town for a few months and moved back to IL. APSU is a nice school and the campus is nice too, on the safer side of town. I wouldnt live near that area though, very congested (down near the Kickers club area) and the homes arent the greatest. You can look into some newer developments along Tiny Town Rd as its a nicer area and not so congested.

Kevin Campbell was my uncle. I will never forget the murders, it took me years to actually eat at a Taco Bell.
