I'm interviewing for a job near the Frist Museum on Broadway.

I see train tracks nearby. Not to sound ignorant, though I am, is the train a popular way to commute? Well used?

I've been looking through these relocation threads. I'm interested in more of a rural feel.

I have a friend who is telling me southeast - coincidentally towards her home!

What would be great is to take the train in but from where?

Prefer the low $200s range if I buy. I'll be retiring in a few years and considering TN. It would be awesome to find my forever home.

No.

The train tracks you see are not commuter tracks. There is only one train coming from the east and it's quite limited.

Not sure why you are surprised, most Southeastern cities are without train service. It’s just the history of how Sunbelt cities were built. This isn’t the Northeast.

Atlanta has a great mass transit system!

Even Oahu is jumping on board.
It's called progress. It would ease up pressure on the freeway commutes, too. (Not that Atlanta traffic isn't some of the worst)

I'm for building mass transit infrastructure in Nashville and surrounding counties, but it's not going to ease up any pressure on the freeway commutes. It will increase commuting capacity and possibly slow the growth of traffic on the highways, but it's not going to ease anything. And it will be monumentally expensive...which has been the biggest, um, roadblock to having any type of rail built here.

you can't ease up the high way commutes until we have a way to move people around once they get to town. We need to first have decent public transport in Nashville and then we can have things like trains that drop people off at a central location. What good is it having a train dropping people off downtown only for those same people not to have an easy way to get to the Gulch, Vanderbilt etc?

From what I read, it was the high taxes that sank the proposal. Apparently, anti-tax groups kicked into high gear and persuaded a lot of people to vote no. Mass transit, like so many other things, has two sides, and yes, it's expensive.

Why all the emoticons, is that a joke? If you want to commute by train then look for a place near a train station. That's not so hard, is it? It looks like the Frist is less than a mile from the station so consider that as exercise.

What an attitude! Is this for real? You plan to move right in and call your neighbors insane.

P.S to Nashvillians: Google maps shows outbound train station at the gulch. Inbound station at the riverfront, outbound stations to the west. I'm kinda curious how that came about.

Get over yourself. I added a .
Just in case, I don't hold the residents responsible for not having a train system in place. I should be there in the next 6 months. That should be enough time.
