Madison and Inglewood would be closest. I live in Madison and it's great....just depends on where you are. Here's a link to some apartments that are on North Graycroft, off of Old Hickory Blvd at I65.

My family is looking to move North of Nashville. We have been looking at Portland and Hendersonville. We have 2 children in Elementary school. Very concerned with school systems especially middle/high school. We live in country now and like the country atmosphere. I have found some great homes in both of the towns. Hoping for someone who lives in these areas to give me some insight into areas as far as crime/ schools. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Those two are extremely different. Hendersonville is one of Nashville's largest suburbs, whereas Portland is quite...well...country.

I always tell people if you're willing to go all the way up to Portland, you might as well just go 20 minutes farther north to Bowling Green, KY.

Agreed. Portland and Hendersonville are both in Sumner County but are very dissimilar as far as overall feel goes. Not that it's a bad thing. It's just that when people think "Sumner County" they generally think Hendersonville or Gallatin whereas Portland is off to itself a bit.

You can find ample rural/near rural housing in Hendersonville and Gallatin that will put you a little easier commute to other parts of the county and to Nashville. Portland schools are pretty good as well. Maybe a knotch lower in reputation than some in Hendersonville, but still good overall compared to the midstate.

Crime is not a huge concern. You'll see some reports of vandalism, domestic disturbances, petty theft, some issues with drug abuse for the most part. All things you might expect in a suburbian community.

What is your budget and maybe we can steer you in some specific areas?
