Hi,
I have a 5th grader who has a variety of learning issues and has an IEP. I have heard if you have learning issues, Brentwood Middle and High Schools will make it way tougher for them to graduate with a regular diploma, because the curriculum is tougher than at other Williamson County Schools. Also, they will keep your kids in a Special Ed program rather than integrate them into the general classroom setting so that their averages remain high.
My question is: is this true? We live in Brentwood but maybe we should apply to be allowed to go to Grassland and then Franklin High, if the path to graduation would be easier for a child with learning challenges.
Please help! Thanks.

I've heard that BMS is intense. Lots of high achieving kids so even an above average kid can not look so good. For example my son's middle school at 6 6th graders taking 7th grade math when he was in 6th grade. BMS had 2 full classes of 6th graders taking 7th grade math on track to take Alg 1 in 7th grade.

I would talk to older parents of kids with IEPs

This is not true at all.

You should meet the principals and discuss your concerns with them before making decisions like this. They will be happy to meet and share their thoughts with you.

Thanks for the replies. I read from researching that Brentwood Middle and Brentwood High were not good choices if the child has dyslexia, which my son does. Could anyone elaborate on that please?
