I have been hearing some skeptical comments about the convention and visitor's bureau's decision to move Nashville's successful NYE celebration from Broadway to Bicentennial Mall. These news stories describe the change:

Nashville’s New Year

Mixed feelings arise about new venue for New Year's Eve bash - WRCBtv.com | Chattanooga News, Weather & Sports

The aerial photos of the 100K+ people crammed into Broadway to watch the live music and the music note drop at midnight are so cool, maybe a little terrifying , but the neon lights of broadway and the riverfront location are a big part of what makes Nashville's NYE unique.

On top of that, this Saturday's forecast calls for rain most of the night on NYE.

I still think plenty of folks will head to Broadway. Do you know any downtown business owners/managers who have said anything about it? It seems like a risky move to make such a huge change to a successful event. What do you think? Who's planning to go?

Terrible idea. Parking will be a major concern and I'm sure the neighborhoods will be overrun. I usually have a house full of people over on NYE but cancelled this year as I'm sure it will be a major pain to even get to my house. And the rain - yes, a huge mess.

Does anyone have any feedback on how it actually was executed? I've been out of town and haven't really read any positive or negative feedback.

I haven't either.

Maybe nobody was there to report about the event?

I worked Downtown Saturday night, and it was very busy.

From the looks of the pictures at the Park, it looks like they had a good crowd, even with the rain.

The park was really crowded and I haven't heard about any issues in the neighborhoods. I drove by the entrance at Jefferson/6th about 4PM on Saturday and there was a line standing in the light rain waiting to get in.

Keith Urban sounded good. I could hear it at my house without going outdoors. If I'd sat out on my front porch (like my neighbor) it would have been crystal clear.

Did Nashville New Year's Eve move to Bicentennial work for the city?
