Maybe moving to Nashville and working in Murfreesboro (see my other posts). Does anyone do this commute (or it's opposite) on a bike? Is it sketchy? Can you ride in the HOV lane? Is there an HOV lane? Thanks.

I see a few people on bikes on the Interstate, but not very many. Better them than me. I wouldn't do it; there's just too much crazy traffic as well as a LOT of trucks on the Interstates around Nashville during rush hour.

By the way, if you want a nice bike ride on the weekend, try the Natchez Trace Parkway.

drewnobi, I put about 10,000 miles a year on my motorcycle and consider myself an experienced rider. However, I steer away from the Interstates in the Nashville area during rush hours. There are to many inattentive drivers who are on cellphones, putting makeup on, eating, reading newspapers, tailgaiting, weaving back and forth from lane to lane with no signaling, etc.

Ha, I'm scared enough driving around here during rush hour in my car! NO WAY would I be on a motorcycle...I would save it for the weekend-not for the commute...

That's not good to hear. The fuel savings would be pretty tremendous. What if you were going out of town in the morning, and vice versa in the evening? Still heavy traffic flow?

Another consideration is the weather . . . here can be a wonderful, sunny summer day in the morning, and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

You aren't going to be against traffic the entire time. Once you get around the Briley Pwky exit you'll be in plenty of traffic again.
