Hello all. And let me apologize up front if what I am asking has already been covered, but I would like to join in here. My wife and I are considering a relocation opportunity with the company we work for. Murfreesboro is looking like a great opportunity. I have been in the suburban Atlanta area for my whole life and am looking forward to a new home town. What I have seen and read about Murfreesboro sounds very positive. We are both mid 40's, no kids, kind of "home bodies" but still enjoy a nice night out with a good meal and the occasional live concert or outdoor festival type activity. What we are looking for is a community feel while still having access to shopping/dining/medical care etc. The most important thing to us is a comfortable area with low crime. Is Murfreesboro for us? And if so, what are the "good" and "bad" areas of town. We will be taking a trip up there in the coming weeks to drive/walk around and get a feel for the place. Looking for a single family home no more than $175K, preferably a ranch in a good neighborhood. We have also looked into Mount Juliet, Franklin, Spring Hill and too many others to remember at the moment. But we keep coming back to the Boro. Any suggestions you have will be most welcome. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and especially thank you for any suggestions you have. They will all be considered seriously!

Like any city area there are good areas and bad ones. I would say that Murfreesboro experiences a "low crime" rate but it's far from crime free. A realtor should be able to steer you away from the "bad areas" without telling you they are doing that. There are a number of houses on the market in your price range - take a look at realtor.com or some of the other real estate websites.

At your stage the important thing is getting a good realtor and then come visit.

You will need to be more specific in what kind of house or neighborhood you are looking for. Do you want to be in a new cookie cutter subdivision or would you rather be in an older neighborhood with mature trees and sidewalks? Do you want to be near the college or close to the interstate? What about being close to parks or the Greenway? Those are the type of things we need t know to direct you to the best place for you.

Thanks Dave and MTFan. I am more interested in parks and the Greenway than where I am in relation to the university or the interstate. I used to live in Athens, GA and have no problem with life in a college town, though. As to the type of house/neighborhood, we see the advantages of new homes, but also see what you lose out on in a cookie cutter neighborhood with an overbearing HOA. We both work for Publix, but will be at separate locations. I like that there are four in Murfreesboro and others fairly nearby. I guess access to the stores will weigh most heavily on where we land. As soon as I can free up some time, we plan to drive up and do a driving/walking look at the area. Need to get a good realtor as well.

Thanks again for the time. Been very helpful and I greatly appreciate it.
