By community I mean local artists, musicians, museums ect? I currently live in Long Beach, Ca and LOVE the ART culture here...but will need to move eventually due to the high cost of housing. Also, is there quite a bit of diversity in Nashville? I do not want to raise my kids in an all 'White" school/area. I'm white, so no, I didn't mean to sound like a bigot...I just really enjoy diversity. =)

Not like Long Beach. There is a small and in my opinion kind of mediocre art community here, the highlight of which is ArtRageous, a fun night out every year. There IS a thriving music community though. Nashville is not incredibly diverse and remains very white with minority African American and Latino populations. Its nothing like the LA area or Chicago or even Atlanta. I'm not knocking Nashville, but if you're really looking for a great Arts scene and diversity and those are your two big decision factors, I would look elsewhere.

Default Art Scene

The art scene is what you make of it !!!! I relocated to Nashville along with my family from NYC, so no the art scene is not as intense as lets say NY or L.A. however, Long Beach is a small community outside of L.A. and unless you are traveling into the city, I would compare it to the art scene in Nashville. Being that both my husband and myself have BFA degrees from NY, we try to incorporate as much of the art scene into our families life as possible. The Frist museum is small however they have had plenty of interesting shows. It is also child friendly, they have an art class free every Saturday for children. I find that the children that show up are very diverse. The Ryman auditorium showcases some interesting talent. such as Ryan Adams (and I don't mean BRIAN)! If you read the Nashville Scene, you will be impressed. Any more info on the topic, im me.
