You would think with the hermitage community being on a middle class level and some areas of hermitage upper class why isn't mcgavock more updated and more advanced like Hillsboro and hunters lane as far as academic programs, renovations, etc? How can you have the biggest student body in Nashville yet no IB program or AP classes?

McGavock had AP last I heard. They don't have IB, but most schools don't, it's a magnet-type program.

Don't you think they should have it?

Truthfully, no, because it's not a "if you're a good school you have this" kind of program. It's very specialized and demanding, and it takes several schools' worth of overachievers to fill it, which is why it's treated as a magnet program. Deciding which schools host the IB program is more of a commentary on location/space than on what the rest of the school is like.

By way of reference, in Williamson County, which is the highest-achieving district in the state, only Franklin has IB. Brentwood doesn't. Ravenwood doesn't. Etc.

I did see where McGavock has the Cambridge program now, which is similar to IB.

My son is at Hermitage Elementary and it's a Cambridge School. We are very happy with the school, we are renting in Hermitage and didn't know anything about the school when we moved here. We only had two days to find a place to live. We are now planning to stay in this home for two years until he's done with the school.
