I previously posted about relocating my family from NW suburbs of Chicago to Nashville. I was in Nashville on business and really liked the area. My wife has never visited.

We have two girls which are 1.5 yrs and 4 yrs old. My wife & I do not yet have jobs in the area. I am most concerned about the best city in Nashville for us. We want something w/ very good schools and lots to offer for kids. We come from an area that is very well known to have good schools and a great network of things for parents & kids. Would want shopping & restaurants in the area as well. A place where it is not necessary to have to go onto Nashville if one wants to eat or shop.

My wife is becoming much more open to moving & wants to visit Nashville in the spring. I would like to have ideas of where to visit along w/ home listings so we can get a good feel of the different areas.

Would be wanting a newer home <5 yrs old, 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, 3 car garage is a must (seems hard to find in Nashville), and a basement (even harder to find) would be a huge plus. Home price range would be 400-500K.

Just looking for opinions on the different cities since I am pretty much in the dark.

Thanks a ton. (< my 4rd old asked me to click this smiley)

You won't have trouble finding a home with the amenities you list(except maybe basement) for 500k in any of the areas you cited. It's probably going to come down to convenience related to jobs and what you consider good schools. Williamson County, which is where Franklin is located, has the highest rated school system in the state. That doesn't mean you wouldn't find good schools in either Wilson County(Mr. Juliet) or Rutherford County(Murfreesboro). Of the three areas you cite, the Franklin area has the highest price homes and the highest income per capita. There are many resources online that will give you most of the information you are looking for.

Default What about diversity?

I'm currently living on the outskirts of Milwaukee, WI and working in a northern suburb. Nashville has been an area that sparked my interest many years ago. My future wife and I our looking to relocate to the area, and was wondering what counties and school districts display high academic achievement, along with a diverse student body. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

theeducator, you can go to a couple of different websites to get specific information you are looking for. One of them is www.state.tn.us/education. You can also access various realtor websites, some of which give you information on school systems and schools. The counties that you will probably want to search are: Davidson County(Nashville), Williamson County(Brentwood/Franklin), Wilson County(Mt. Juliet), Rutherford County, and Sumner County. The latest school district test scores that I have looked at rate Davidson County the lowest of these and Williamson County the highest of these.
