Relocating to Murfreesboro from Maryland. We have found two houses that we like. One is in the triple Blackman school zone (Cedar Creek Subdivision) and the other is in the triple Siegel school zone (Jamison Place Subdivision). I have two children in elementary and one in middle school. The oldest is into a variety of sports. Is one area better than the other. We will be traveling to the area next week to check everything out. TIA

Siegel is a bit more affluent. Blackman is still good as well. I don't know the actual subdivision you named, but a lot of Blackman's neighborhoods were thrown up pretty quickly, so the resale value could bring you down.

Siegel is known for its marching band if you have children who are musical, too.

You can't go wrong with either as these are 2 of the better schools in Mboro but if I were in your shoes I'd select Siegel. The area is a bit more upscale and there's been a history of violence on the busses involving students from Blackman in recent years. Don't get me wrong - I'd send my own kids to Blackman, I just wouldn't let them take the bus...

I was a band geek growing up so I still attend Contest of Champions in Murfreesboro from time to time. The quick rise of Siegel has been impressive. Franklin has developed quite a strong band program as well now. I know one of Overton's old band directors is there. It used to be that McGavock, John Overton and Columbia Central dominated all the other competitive TN marching bands for years, but the Rutherford and Williamson County high schools have very solid programs now. Brentwood has been impressive in recent years too.

Hi, I'm relocating to Murfreesboro as well. I'm considering two different places to live. The first being - The Gateway Village on N Thompson..... The other is a new development on Memorial Blvd called - 3343 memorial. Are these good locations? Any other suggestions for places to lease?

Both of those places are good locations. Gateway Village is closer to shopping and restaurants and the interstate. The other location is on the north side of town and is also close to shopping and restaurants but not quite as many.
