I recall, long ago, bowling alley held PBA tournament. Is it still owned by man or his family who was longtime first owner of the Sounds, who I had heard were AA originally?

Some good memories for me. Doing laundry across street, Sunday breakfast at Krystalreading Tennessean, and playing vids on a $1 for over an hour.
I'm only 33 and had a date in high school at that bowling alley because she was from Gallatin haha. That place was cool. At least I think that's the same place.

There are two buildings to that strip. The one where Aldi is was built in 1976 and it originally had the bowling alley. It was in the lower level. I remember bowling there with a few friends who lived in hville sometime in the late 80s. Then a few years later same group of us went bowling and the alley had moved to the strip next door. I think the same developer built both.

I thought this opinion piece by James Fenton in the Gallatin News Examiner was worth reading to walk readers through how retail developments choose where to locate, the timeline, and why we can't always get what we want.

My takeaway from Fenton's article is we need to wait for more corporate retail to move in. But let's be real - Gallatin is exploding. The buildable land in Hvill and Gtown is disappearing faster than cigarettes at a bingo hall. There's rarely a rezoning request the County Commission or Gallatin City Council won't vote approve (always for more population dense usage). Damn the infrastructure, Schools overcrowding, and ignore the impact to Emergency services.

Gallatin's City Council just approved the Windsong project, approving 600 homes + retail space with only 44 single-family detached residential lots. The rest is high density and retail space on only 126 acres. The surrounding schools are at capacity as it is, why not add another 600 kids at the very least. I'm not holding my breath that the 1000 home Meadows project (on 386 acres near Gibbs Ln) won't get approved in some form. It's currently zoned Low Density Residential and they're trying to put 4 houses on one acre.

Fenton points out that GreenLea Boulevard average daily traffic is 6k, and places like Olive Garden want 20k or Cheddar’s wants 50K. Well there's hardly anything built there today, other that the 304 unit Edison complex, and the very recent St Thomas Medical center. The average daily traffic for Indian Lake back when Cheddar’s was built was around 30k. So they've built with less traffic. Longhorn in Gallatin is the real winner, swooping up a lot of the Business lunches. They don't have much competition (at their price point) presently.

My point is Sumner County is on fire, and will continue to grow for a few more years at the very least. Even if Nashville slows down, it's still somewhat cheaper to live in Sumner. Just look at all the car washes and mini-storage's popping up in Gallatin. They see the wave of people on the horizon marching toward Sumner County, and are positioning for it.

Default Sears outlet

Does anyone know what is going in at The Maples where the Sears outlet used to be? There is some construction activity going on.

I think I read on FB it’s going to be a indoor storage facility.

You know your town has too many apartments when storage facilities keep popping up like wild hairs.

Yuck. I can think of a lot better uses for that space.

Amen. More apartments/condos/homes. Same old streets. More cars on the streets and in parking lots, more shoppers in store lines. Among other problems.

Too bad Hendersonville isn't further from Nashville. It used to be an advantage. Now it's a disadvantage, in several ways.

Default O'Charley's

Is there something planned for the old Indian Lake O'Charley's? I noticed this weekend that the building had been torn down.
